Ready to Rekey?
Tell us how many doors and locks you have, and whether you want them all on one key. We will give you a quote and set a time.
Serving Carson City, Minden & Gardnerville, Dayton and Lake Tahoe.
Every pin-tumbler lock has a set of small spring-loaded pins inside the cylinder. Your key lifts those pins to exactly the right heights so the cylinder can turn. Rekeying means taking the cylinder apart and swapping those pins for a new combination. The lock body, the handle and the finish on your door stay exactly as they are; only the key changes.
Replacing means removing the whole lock and fitting new hardware. That is the right call when the lock is worn out, damaged, poor quality or the wrong style, or when you want a different kind of lock altogether, such as a keypad deadbolt. Our lock change and installation service covers that.
If your locks work smoothly and you are happy with them, rekeying gives you the same security result, old keys no longer work, for less money and less waste. It is also how we make several doors work with a single key, and it is one of the most requested jobs on our residential locksmith list.
Any time you cannot account for every key, rekeying puts you back in control.
Buying a house in one of Carson City’s newer neighborhoods, such as Empire Ranch or Silver Oak? Builders, trades and previous owners may all have handled keys. Rekeying on move-in day is one of the simplest security steps you can take.
Most homes are rekeyed in a single visit while you wait.

Carson City has a large rental market, from apartments near Carson Street to single-family homes leased to state employees and families. Rekeying between tenants is cheaper than replacing locks every move-out and gives the next tenant confidence that nobody else has a working key.
We can rekey a single unit or several, set each unit on its own key, and cut the number of copies you want for the tenant and your own records. If you manage rentals in the Carson Valley or at the lake, we cover Minden and Gardnerville and Lake Tahoe’s Nevada side too.
